However, last year’s national crime statistics reveal that 100.000 tenants and homeowners weren’t. Moreover, many criminals are totally pro when it comes to figuring out ways around most standard burglar alarms. Means the arms race is always on.

Smart technology offers a wide range of opportunities to upgrade your home security system, for instance, using smart door and window contacts, or motion detection via smart video cameras. Using AI to Generate Realistic Presence Simulations

Presence AI is a powerful app that has been jointly designed by the AI experts at Signal Cruncher and our team at Conrad Connect. The system is centred around machine learning, one of the staple concepts when it comes to artificial intelligence, ensuring that the app evolves all the time.

This puts Presence AI in a league of its own, as conventional timer software tends to be limited to rigid routines, unable to adapt to altered conditions. When it comes to creating convincing presence simulations, flexibility is key. Humans are not machines, and there will always be slight and not so slight changes in how we run our lives from day to day. Realistic presence simulations need to reflect this by factoring in such irregularities.

This is why Presence AI bases its analysis on how you use each and every smart product in your home. At the moment, the service supports smart lighting products from both Philips Hue and other brands, as well as smart WIFI plugs. This means that the service covers a wide range of home automation set-ups. What’s more, this also means that you can incorporate roller shutters and sun shades into your smart home system if you operate them using wireless in-line sockets instead of flush-mount actuators.  

If you’ve already been using Conrad Connect for a while, Presence AI accesses the usage data stored in your account and uses them to come up with a profile reflecting your day-to-day home automation routines, using an algorithm to visualise and graphically process appliance-specific information.  On the other hand, and if you’ve just subscribed to our platform, or are adding new smart products to your account, the AI creates the profile based on randomly generated data. It usually takes one to two weeks until the AI has learnt how you run your smart home. 

Afterwards the AI uses the processed information to simulate your user behaviour whilst continually keeping an eye on how you use your smart appliances, adjusting the simulations whenever your usage patterns shifts, if necessary.

How to Set up Presence AI on Conrad Connect

Subscribing to and setting up Presence AI is both done on Conrad Connect’s Service Marketplace. Just follow the instructions below.

    1. Log in to your Conrad Connect account and click “Service Marketplace” in the navigation bar at the top of the page.
    2. Select “Own Services” and click the “Presence AI” tag.
    3. If you accept the service T&Cs, tick the appropriate boxes. Then click “Subscribe”. 
    4. Choose the smart home products you want the AI to use to simulate home occupancy. At the moment, the app supports switching lights and smart WIFI plugs on and off. 
    5. Select the basic usage pattern you want the AI to employ when simulating home occupancy. You may choose between stored past usage information of all your products interconnected on our platform, and randomly generated data in the case of no device usage history being available at present. 
    6. The last thing to do is specify what the AI should do after being activated. Choosing “Learning Mode” means the AI will continuously monitor how you use your smart devices, adjusting the basic user pattern accordingly. However, the AI won’t utilise these updated patterns during the simulation. This requires shifting the AI into “Active Mode”, resulting in the app using the latest user pattern as a basis for presence simulation. And selecting “Pause Mode” deactivates both machine learning and home occupancy simulation. That’s pretty much it

    As of today, Presence AI is available from our Service Marketplace. The app supports smart lighting products and WIFI plugs with Conrad Connect compatibility. What’s more, why not opt for a 30-day free trial if you can’t make up your mind just yet? And if you want to keep using AI-based presence simulation, simply carry on. Post-trial, the service subscription fee is  €1.49 per month, billed on a monthly basis. You may cancel your subscription prior to each renewal date.
